Sandro Puppo (Italian pronunciation:[ˈsandroˈpuppo]; 28 January 1918 – 16 October 1986) was an Italianfootball manager and former player who played as amidfielder.
During his playing days, Puppo played for Italian clubsPiacenza,Ambrosiana,[1][2]Venezia andA.S. Roma in the 1930s and 1940s.[3] He won aSerie A title with Ambrosiana in1937–38 (without playing, however), and twoCoppa Italia titles with Ambrosiana and Venezia in1938–39 and1940–41 respectively.[4]
At international level, Puppo was a member of theItaly national football team that won a gold medal at the1936 Summer Olympic football tournament.[5]
Later Puppo became a coach and managed theTurkey national football team in the1954 FIFA World Cup (becoming the first Italian coach ever to do so, 71 years beforeVincenzo Montella), and went on to manage teams such asBarcelona,Juventus andBeşiktaş.[4]
