San Giuseppe al Trionfale is a 20th-centuryminor basilica andtitular church inRome,[4] located immediately north of theVatican, dedicated toSaint Joseph.[5][6][7]
San Giuseppe in Via Trionfale was built in 1909–12, designed inNeoclassical style byAristide Leonori.[8][9] It was the project ofLuigi Guanella, founder of theServants of Charity.[10]
On 7 June 1967, it was made atitular church to be held by acardinal-deacon.[11] In 1970 it was made aminor basilica.
The basilica has a centralnave with side aisles with ninebays. The façade is rendered in peach, with architectural details in white, anddado inlimestone.[17][18]
The interior is in aBaroque style, withCorinthian columns in pinkish-greyBaveno granite with gildedcapitals. Stained glass windows depictPope Pius IX,Pope Pius X andPope Benedict XV.Mosaics in theapse were added in 1964 to designs by Pio and Silvio Eroli, with scenes from the life ofSaint Joseph.[19] Thespandrel of thetriumphal arch shows Christ in majesty with scenes featuring the four patriarchsAbraham,Isaac,Jacob andJoseph, son of Jacob.[20] Silvio Consadori added twelvefrescos in 1971.[21]
