TheSan Gabriel Valley Tribune is a paid daily newspaper headquartered inMonrovia, California, that serves the central and easternSan Gabriel Valley. It operated from a West Covina location from 1955 to 2015. TheTribune is a member of Southern California News Group[2] (formerly theLos Angeles Newspaper Group), a division ofDigital First Media. It is also part of the San Gabriel Valley Newspaper Group, along with thePasadena Star-News and theWhittier Daily News.
In 1947, the owners of theCovina Argus-Citizen founded theBaldwin Park Tribune, a weekly paper for residents ofBaldwin Park, California. The papers' cooperate owner was headed by Carl P. Miller and included Corwin Hoffland, A.Q. Miller Jr. and Alba Hibsch. The new paper's first editor was Ted Weegar.[3] On March 21, 1955, theSan Gabriel Valley Tribune was launched inWest Covina, California. The daily paper was founded after Miller's company merged together two weeklies, theSunday Valley Tribune andBaldwin Park Tribune. The new paper's paid circulation was 15,000.[4][5] Later that year theTribune joined theAssociated Press news network.[6] In 1960, the newspaper chainBrush-Moore purchased theTribune.[7]Thomson Newspapers purchased Brush-Moore in 1967 and sold theTribune to Singleton'sMediaNews Group in 1996.[8]
