Samsun Province (Turkish:Samsun ili) is aprovince andmetropolitan municipality ofTurkey on theBlack Sea coast. Its area is 9,725 km2,[2] and its population is 1,368,488 (2022).[1] Its adjacent provinces areSinop on the northwest,Çorum on the west,Amasya on the south,Tokat on the southeast on the east. Itstraffic code is 55. The provincial capital isSamsun, one of the most populated cities inTurkey.

History

Surgical instruments are manufactured in the province today and were 4000 years ago.[3] The founder of theTurkish Republic,Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, started theTurkish War of Independence there on May 19, 1919.

Samsun province is divided into 17districts, four of which were included in the pre-2013 municipality ofSamsun city (shown in boldface letters).

Climate

There is a local plan forclimate change, but it says nothing about coal[6] although the province imports both coal and gas from Russia.[7]
