Samuel Pennington Thavarasa Tambimuttu (1932 – 1990) was aSri Lankan Tamil lawyer, politician and Member of Parliament.
Tambimuttu was born in 1932.[1] He was the grand nephew ofE. R. Tambimuttu, member of theState Council of Ceylon.[1][2] He was married to Kala, daughter of SenatorM. Manickam.[1][3] They had a son Arun.[2]
Tambimuttu was aMethodist.[1][2]
Tambimuttu was aproctor andpracticed law inBatticaloa.[1][3] He was chairman of Batticaloa Citizen's Committee.[1][3] In this capacity he would intervene on behalf of youths arrested by the paramilitarySpecial Task Force.[4]
Tambimuttu had been a member of theTamil United Liberation Front for a long time.[3] He contested the1989 parliamentary election as one of theEelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front's candidates inBatticaloa District and was elected toParliament.[5]
Tambimuttu wasassassinated on 7 May 1990 outside theCanadian High Commission inColombo.[3] His wife Kala died on 16 May as a result of injuries sustained in the assassination.[3] The assassination was blamed on the rebelLiberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.[6][7]
