Sally Sitou (born 24 September 1982) is an Australian politician. She currently serves as amember of parliament for theAustralian Labor Party, representing the western Sydney seat ofReid.
She was elected at the2022 Australian federal election, defeating the incumbent Liberal member,Fiona Martin.[2]
Sitou was born inCanley Vale, New South Wales, the second child ofChinese Laotian parents who fled Laos after theVietnam War.[3]
She attended Canley Vale Public School andSefton High School, completing a bachelor degree in Psychology atMacquarie University in 2005.[4][5] Following this, she worked in international development and international education for more than ten years, including a period of time at the Department of Foreign Affairs.[6] Prior to becoming a politician, she was a doctoral researcher at theUniversity of Sydney.[3]
Sitou joined theAustralian Labor Party in 2006 and worked on the 2007Bennelong campaign in whichMaxine McKew defeated sitting prime ministerJohn Howard.[7] She also worked as an adviser toJason Clare, member forBlaxland.[6]
In 2021, Sitou was preselected as the Labor candidate for theDivision of Reid.[8] She achieved a swing of 8.4 percent to win the seat in the May 2022 federal election.[9]
Sitou is married with one child.[10]
