Salah Al-Mukhtar (Arabic:صلاح المختار; born 1944 inBaghdad) is an IraqiBa'athist politician who is reportedly the current leader of theIraqi Ba'ath Party. He was Deputy General Secretary of theArab League andSaddam Hussein's ambassador to many countries.[1][2]
He served in theIran-Iraq war within the Iraqi Army attaining the rank of Colonel.
He left Iraq forYemen following theUS invasion in 2003, he then went toGermany during theArab Spring in 2011.[3] Since 3 November 2020 he has been head of the Iraqi Ba'ath Party, reportedly succeedingIzzat al-Douri.[4][better source needed]
