Salvatore J. Cesario (born July 4, 1963) is an American former professionalfootball player who was anoffensive guard for theDallas Cowboys of theNational Football League (NFL). He playedcollege football for theCal Poly Mustangs.

Early life

Cesario attendedBellarmine College Preparatory, where he played as atight end/fullback.[1] He also playedbasketball.

Hewalked-on atDivision IICal Poly San Luis Obispo.[2] As a freshman, he was awarded a football scholarship two weeks after beginning to practice with the team as adefensive end but would quickly convert to playH-back his freshman season.[3]

As a sophomore, he was converted into anoffensive tackle. He became a three-year starter atleft tackle.[4]

Professional career

New York Jets

Cesario was selected by theNew York Jets in the twelfth round (328th overall) of the1986 NFL draft.[5][6] He was waived on September 1, after struggling because he lacked size.[7] On February 19,1987, he was signed to participate intraining camp.[8][9] He was released on August 31.[10]

Dallas Cowboys

After theNFLPA strike was declared on the third week of the1987 season, those contests were canceled (reducing the 16-game season to 15) and theNFL decided that the games would be played with replacement players. In September, he was signed to be a part of theDallas Cowboys replacement team that was given the mock name "Rhinestone Cowboys" by the media.[11] He started 3 games atleft guard. He was cut on October 20, at the end of the strike.[12]

Miami Dolphins

On March 23,1988, he was signed as afree agent by theMiami Dolphins.[13] He was released on August 23.[14]

Personal life

After football, he became the Global Sales and Marketing Manager at Micro-Pak Ltd.[15] His father Sal Sr. was selected by theDetroit Lions in the1959 NFL draft.[16]
