
Sakhir (Arabic:الصخير,romanized: Aṣ-Ṣaḫīr) is adesert area located in theSouthern Governorate ofBahrain, nearZallaq.[1] It contains theAl-Sakhir Palace, built in either 1870 or 1901 depending on different sources.[2][3] It also is the current location of theBahrain Grand Prix inFormula One, theBahrain International Circuit
Camping in Sakhir during the winter months is a popular activity in the country.[4]
In the early 2000s, the area saw many changes such as the creation of theUniversity of Bahrain main campus andBahrain International Circuit, the home of Formula One'sBahrain Grand Prix. During the2020 Formula One season, the track hosted a second race, theSakhir Grand Prix, using an alternate track layout.
Sakhir is also the location of the biannualBahrain International Airshow[5] as well as theAl Areen Wildlife Park, the onlynature reserve andzoo located on land in Bahrain.
Bell Sports, an American manufacturer of bicycle and motorsport helmets, has a showroom located near Bahrain International Circuit.[6]
