Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil (French pronunciation:[sɛ̃nikɔladəbuʁɡœj]ⓘ, literallySaint-Nicolas ofBourgueil) is acommune in theIndre-et-Loiredepartment in centralFrance.[3]
This village is in theLoire Valley, in the midst of many castles, such asChenonceaux,Villandry, etc. The commune is home to a wineappellation,Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil AOC.
Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil is situated betweenAngers,Tours andChinon.
The oldecclesia Sancti Nicolai, mentioned in 1208, was situated in the North-east of the present cemetery ofBourgueil.
In 1790–1794, Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil annexed the former commune of La Taille. The current village centre of Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil was built during theJuly Monarchy (1830-1848).
