Sahmkou Camara (born 10 June 2003) is a professional footballer who plays as acentre-back for Czech sideMFK Karviná. Born in France, he represents Guinea internationally.
Camara is a native of Paris and played in the youth categories of Cavigal Nice.[citation needed]
Camara played 31 league matches in the French fourth division, scoring his only goal on 14 December 2022 againstSaint-Priest. He was a regular in the starting lineup.[1]
Camara signed a contract withStade Lausanne Ouchy in the summer of 2023.[2] He made his debut in the Swiss top flight on 5 August 2023, in a 1–1 draw againstServette.[3] He scored his first goal on 28 September of the same year, when he scored in the 81st minute againstYverdon to equalise the game 1–1.[4] He played a total of 25 games in theSwiss Super League in the 2023/2024 season with the Swiss team, scoring one goal. However, he was unable to prevent relegation to thesecond division.[5]
While playing for Stade Lausanne Ouchy he was called up to theGuinea national team.[6]
On 25 January 2025, he transferred to Czech sideSlavia Prague and was immediately sent on loan to Karviná.[7][8]
At the end of January 2025, he was sent on a year and a half long loan toMFK Karviná together withAlexander Bužek.[9] Camara made his debut for Karviná in a 1–1 draw againstFK Teplice.[10]
While playing forStade Lausanne Ouchy Camara received his first international call-up in October 2023 for matches againstTogo andGuinea-Bissau.[8][11] He played against Guinea-Bissau in a 1–0 victory.[12]
