Sadik Adam Al-Hassan (born 17 December 1984)[1] is a BritishLabour Party politician and pharmacist who has been theMember of Parliament forNorth Somerset since2024. He gained the seat fromLiam Fox, aConservative.[2]
Al-Hassan was born to an Iraqi father and an Irish mother.[3] His father, a civil servant, arrived in Britain in the 1970s.[4] Al-Hassan attendedCalday Grange Grammar School in the Wirral. He graduated from theUniversity of Bath in 2007.[5]
Al-Hassan was a store manager atBoots in Wirral for three years and worked atWell Pharmacy for over seven years as an area operations manager and a branch manager. At time of election, he worked inCribbs Causeway as the superintendent pharmacist of the online PillTime, which has about 200,000 nominated patients all around the UK.[6][7]
Al-Hassan was 6th on Labour's list of candidates for theSouth West England region in the2019 European Parliament elections and was not elected.[8]
He was selected as Labour's candidate forNorth Somerset in the2024 general election and ran on a platform of rebuilding theNHS. He also expressed concern over pharmacies closing in the local area.[9] He defeated the incumbentConservative Party candidateLiam Fox, who had been the MP for the area (North Somerset and previouslyWoodspring) for three decades.[10]
In November 2024, he joined a group of fellow medic MPs to call for Parliament to back assisted dying legislation.[11]
Married with 2 children, Al-Hassan is one of 18 Labour Muslim MPs elected in the last election. As of 2025, he lives inPill.[12][13]
