Zeinab Sade Elhawary[2] is an American politician andcommunity organizer who is a member of theCalifornia State Assembly representing the57th district. A member of theDemocratic Party, Elhawary previously worked as an educator and forMayorKaren Bass.[3]

Early life and education

Elhawary was born inLos Angeles to immigrant parents. She is half-Guatemalan and half-Egyptian.[4] She received her bachelor's degree from theUniversity of California, Los Angeles and her master's degree from theHarvard Graduate School of Education.[5]

Personal life

Elhawary is afoster mother and resides inSouth Central Los Angeles.[6] She isbisexual.[5]
