TheSacher hexachord (6-Z11, amusical cryptogram on the name of Swiss conductorPaul Sacher) is ahexachord notable for its use in a set of twelve compositions (12 Hommages à Paul Sacher) created at the invitation ofMstislav Rostropovich for Sacher's seventieth birthday in 1976.

The twelve compositions includePierre Boulez'sMessagesquisse,Benjamin Britten'sTema "Sacher",Hans Werner Henze'sCapriccio,Witold Lutosławski'sSacher Variation, andHenri Dutilleux'sTrois strophes sur le nom de Sacher.[2][3] Further, Boulez'sRépons,Dérive 1,Incises andSur Incises all usetone rows with the same pitches.[4]

Thehexachord's complement is itsZ-relation,6-Z40.
