TheSabti (Arabic : بنو سبتي ) are aSomali clan belonging to the largerMurusade clan , which itself belongs to the largerKaranle branch of theHawiye clan .[ 1] [ 2] The clan is reputed for having a lengthy and flourishing mercantile history that dates back through history. The Sabti primarily reside in the central regions ofSomalia , inGalgaduud andMudug , as well asBanaadir and theLower Shabelle in southernSomalia .[ 3] [ 4] [ 5] [ 6] [ 7]
The Sabti's original homeland was in northernSomalia , but a section of the clan migrated south around the 13th century and settled along the Banadir coast up to theShebelle River .[ 3] [ 7] The Sabti traditionally consist ofnomadic pastoralists ,coastal people,merchants andfarmers .[ 8]
