TheEMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform) is amodularcar platform which is jointly developed and used by French car manufacturerPSA Group (merged intoStellantis since 2021) for compact and mid-sizecars withfront wheel drive orfour wheel drive and transverse engine. It replaces thePF2 andPF3 platforms in one combined modular platform, and cost PSA €630 million to develop.

Specification

[edit]

The EMP2 platform is highly modular, with a choice of short and long wheelbase, low or high riding height, and a choice of independentmulti-link ortwisted-beam rear suspension. Comparing to the predecessorPF2, the platform reduces the weight by 70 kg usingvery high strength steel, aluminum and magnesium alloys, and composite materials.[1]

This platform was first used on the second-generationCitroën C4 Picasso and then on the second-generationPeugeot 308 and second-generationPeugeot 408.

The later iteration of the EMP2 has a degree of flexibility which allows four different track widths, five different wheelbase lengths, two different cockpit architectures, two rear axle architectures, several rear vehicle modules for various versions (short, long, five or seven-seater, single seats or rear bench, combustion engine orhybrid), and up to six different rear vehicle assemblies, which can be produced on the same assembly line.[2]

Production

[edit]

PSA started production of the EMP2 platform at the Vigo plant (in Spain), under the 2013Citroën C4 Picasso which was previewed by theTechnospace concept car,[3] and the 2013Peugeot 308,[4] which is produced in the Sochaux plant in France.
