SSHenry Gilbert Costin was aLiberty ship built in theUnited States duringWorld War II. She was named afterHenry Gilbert Costin, aprivate in theUnited States Army who received theMedal of Honor for his actions inWorld War I, near Bois–de–Consenvoye, France, during theMeuse–Argonne offensive.

Construction

Henry Gilbert Costin was laid down on 23 January 1943, under aMaritime Commission (MARCOM) contract, MCE hull 950, by theBethlehem-Fairfield Shipyard,Baltimore, Maryland; she wassponsored by Mrs. Elizabeth Costin, the mother of Henry Costin, and launched on 9 March 1943.[1][2]

History

She was allocated to theCosmopolitan Shipping Co., Inc., on 23 March 1943.[4]

On 18 September 1949, she was laid up in theBeaumont Reserve Fleet, inBeaumont, Texas. On 12 January 1951, she was sold toArrow SS Corp., and renamedJoseph Feuer.[4] She was sold on 2 January 1959, reflagged inLiberia, and renamedEvy. In 1960, she was again flagged in the US and renamedValliant Faith. On 6 October 1961, she was reflagged inGreece, and renamedHermioni and thenArya Jayanti in 1963. She was scrapped inBombay, India, in December 1966.[5]
