SN 2020fqv was atype II supernova which occurred in March 2020 in thespiral galaxyNGC 4568, approximately 60 millionlight years fromEarth. The explosion was detected by both theZwicky Transient Facility and theTransiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite. Observations were obtained by theHubble Space Telescope both years before and just 26 hours after it exploded, as well as many other instruments, providing the first holistic view of such an event.[2][3][4][5][6]

The progenitor star is modelled to be ared supergiant with a radius of800±100 R☉ and a mass of15±3 M☉, fairly typical of type II supernova progenitors.[6]
