SHMU (/ʃmuː/SHMOO, short forStation House Media Unit) is acommunity radio station operating inWoodside,Aberdeen.[1]
SHMU was established in 2003 and started broadcasting on the Internet at 9:30 am on 17 March 2005[2][3] and expanded toFM on 20 October 2007.[4]
SHMU was given theQueen's Award for Voluntary Service in 2020.[5]
In 2022 SHMU applied for a licence to operate aDAB ensemble in the North Aberdeen area as part ofOfcom's third round of advertised small-scale DAB licences.[1][6][7] The station was granted the licence in July 2022[8] and started broadcasting on DAB+ in February 2024.[9]
