TheS2 5.5, also called theGrand Slam 5.5, is an Americansailing dinghy that was designed byDon Wennersten as aracer andday sailer and first built in 1982. The designation indicates the approximatelength overall in meters.[1][2]
The design was the smallest boatS2 Yachts produced and its onlydingy model.[3][4]
The design was built by S2 Yachts inHolland, Michigan,United States from 1982 until 1983, with 70 boats completed, but it is now out of production.[1][2][3][4]
The S2 5.5 is a recreationalsailboat, built predominantly offiberglass, with wood trim. It has afractionalsloop rig, araked stem, a plumbtransom, a transom-hungrudder controlled by atiller and a retractablecenterboard. It displaces 600 lb (272 kg) and has a smallcuddy cabin for stowage.[1][2]
The boat has a draft of 4.00 ft (1.22 m) with the centerboard extended. With it retracted the boat can operate in shallow water, bebeached or ground transported on atrailer.[1][2]
The design has ahull speed of 5.4 kn (10.0 km/h).[2]
