Syed Abdul Rahman (9 November 1937 – 2 June 2017)[1] was aTamil poet fromTamil Nadu, India. He was known by the titleKavikko (lit. Emperor among poets). He was ex-chairman ofWaqf board of Tamil Nadu.
Syed Abdul Rahman was born inMadurai in 1937 and died on 2 June 2017. He was a professor of Tamil for 29 years at Islamiah College,Vaniyambadi. He belonged to theVanambadi literary movement. He won theSahitya Akademi award in 1999 underTamil language category for his PoetryAalaapanai.[2][3] In 2009, he was made the chairman of theWaqf board of Tamil Nadu. He was also a member of the Tamil Language Promotion Board of theCentral Institute of Classical Tamil.
