Sérgio Agostinho de Oliveira Vieira (born 15 January 1983) is a Portuguesefootballmanager.
After a brief amateur playing career as aforward, he began coaching in 2005. He ledAthletico Paranaense andAmérica Mineiro in theCampeonato Brasileiro Série A, andMoreirense andEstrela da Amadora in thePrimeira Liga.
Born inPóvoa de Lanhoso,Braga, Vieira was aforward during his playing days. AnS.C. Braga youth graduate, he retired at the age of 21 while playing forAmares, and started studying.[1]
Vieira's first managerial experiences were at Sport Lisboa e Cartaxo andClube Condeixa, in the regional leagues. After being a tactical coach atNaval 1º de Maio,Académica de Coimbra, Braga (two stints) andSporting CP,[2] he moved to Brazil.[3]
Vieira was appointed manager ofAtlético Paranaense's under-23 squad on 3 July 2015; he was signed by the club in January.[4] Late in the month, however, he was named at the helm ofGuaratinguetá, as both clubs sealed a partnership.[5]
Vieira took charge ofGuará with the side seriously threatened with relegation inSérie C, but managed to avoid the drop after achieving four wins and one draw in nine matches.[6] On 28 September he returned toFuracão, being appointed interim manager after the dismissal ofMilton Mendes;[7] he remained in charge for two matches, achieving one win and one loss.
On 11 November 2015, Vieira was appointedFerroviária manager, after another partnership with Atlético was established.[8] During his spell at the club he impressed, after drawing withCorinthians and defeatingPalmeiras;[9] on 4 April, however, after the club's qualification chances were null and relegation became a serious threat, he was sacked.[10]
On 4 June 2016 Vieira was namedAmérica Mineiro manager inSérie A, replacing firedGivanildo Oliveira.[11] He was dismissed just 43 days later, having taken eight points of a possible 15.[12]
Vieira returned toSão Paulo state to manageSão Bernardo in the2017 Campeonato Paulista. After the team were relegated with eight losses from 12 games, a clause was activated to dismiss him at the end of March.[13]
On 31 October 2017, Vieira was appointed atMoreirense for the rest of thePrimeira Liga season with the option of two more.[14] Four days later on his domestic debut, the team drew 1–1 at home toPortimonense.[15] He left by mutual consent on 13 February with the club fromMoreira de Cónegos still second from bottom.[16]
Vieira was appointed manager ofLigaPro clubFamalicão on 30 June 2018, replacingDito at a team under new foreign ownership.[17] He resigned the following 18 March after a run of three games without a win, despite the side fromVila Nova de Famalicão still being in the promotion places.[18]
On 22 May 2019, Vieira was appointed atFarense for the following second-tier campaign.[19] In hisfirst season on theAlgarve – curtailed by theCOVID-19 pandemic – he guided the team to promotion to the top flight for the first time in 18 years, and was rewarded with a new three-year deal.[20] On 31 January 2021, with Farense last in the league, he left by mutual consent.[21]
Vieira returned to work on 30 June 2022, on a two-year deal at second-tier clubEstrela da Amadora.[22] He won promotion in hisfirst season on penalties in the playoffs againstMarítimo and then extended his contract to 2026.[23]
On 7 January 2025, Vieira signed withAcadémico de Viseu in the second tier until the end of the season.[24] He left Académico on 6 October 2025.[25]
