Ryan William Weld (born May 19, 1980[1]) is aRepublican member of theWest Virginia Senate for the1st district. He previously served in theWest Virginia House of Delegates. He was appointedwhip in 2017.[2]

Biography

Weld was born inWellsburg, West Virginia, where he still resides. He graduated fromFairmont State University in 2003.[3] Weld is aprosecuting attorney[4] andCaptain in theAir Force Reserve.[5]

Weld was elected to the House of Delegates in 2014, defeating incumbentPhil Diserio.[6] In November 2015, he announced his candidacy for the Senate in the 2016 election.[7] Weld won the Republican primary unopposed, and defeated incumbent DemocratJack Yost in the general election.[8] In 2020, Weld was unsuccessfully opposed in the primary by Jack Newbrough.[9][10]
