Ryan George Peter Bester (born 7 December 1984 inHanover,Canada) is a Canadianlawn bowler.
Bester won the gold medal in the pairs withKeith Roney at the2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship inAyr.[1] After winning a bronze in the2008 World Outdoor Bowls Championship he finished runner-up toLeif Selby in the2012 World Outdoor Bowls Championship men's singles. He won his fifth World Championship medal when winning a silver medal in thesingles at the2016 World Outdoor Bowls Championship inChristchurch.[2]
In 2020, he was selected for the2020 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Australia but the event was cancelled due to theCOVID-19 pandemic.[3]
In 2023, he was selected again by Canada for the2023 World Outdoor Bowls Championship.[4] He participated in themen's pairs and themen's fours events.[5][6] In the pairs, Bester qualified in first place withJohn Bezear in his group before being eliminated at the semi final stage, after losing to Ireland.[7] However one week later, in the singles he went on to win the gold medal after beatingGary Kelly in the final.
He clinched the silver medal in the2014 Commonwealth Games inlawn bowling.[8] He also wonbronze medal in2006 Commonwealth Games inMelbourne.[8]
In November 2017, Bester was named toCanada's2018 Commonwealth Games team.[9][10] During the 2018Commonwealth Games on theGold Coast inQueensland he won asilver medal in thesingles.[11] In 2022, he competed in themen's singles and themen's pairs at the2022 Commonwealth Games.[12]
Bester has won eight medals at theAsia Pacific Bowls Championships, a singles gold in 2005, a silver in the singles and bronze in the pairs in 2007, double bronze in 2011 and a pairs gold in 2015. His seventh and eighth medals came in with a singles silver and pairs bronze at the 2019Asia Pacific Bowls Championships in theGold Coast, Queensland.[13][14] In 2007 he won the singles gold medal at theAtlantic Bowls Championships.[15]
