Russell Lee Morman (born April 28, 1962) is an American professionalbaseballcoach,manager, and formerMajor League Baseball (MLB)first baseman/outfielder who played for theChicago White Sox,Kansas City Royals, andFlorida Marlins between1986 and1997.
A native ofIndependence, Missouri, Morman playedcollege baseball atIowa Western Community College andWichita State University. In 1982, he playedcollegiate summer baseball with theOrleans Cardinals of theCape Cod Baseball League.[1] He was selected by the White Sox in the first round of the1983 MLB Draft.
After his playing career ended, Mormanmanaged in the Marlin andBoston Red Soxfarm systems and served as a hitting coach for thePortland Sea Dogs andPawtucket Red Sox through the2009 season.
He was the hitting coach of theRichmond Flying Squirrels of theEastern League andDouble-A affiliate of theSan Francisco Giants, in 2010. In 2011, he became the hitting coach for theFresno Grizzlies of thePacific Coast League, then the Giants'Triple-A affiliate.
In2014 the Giants announced that Morman would return to managing andRichmond as the skipper of the Flying Squirrels[2] and they assigned him to theClass ASan Jose Giants of theCalifornia League for2015.[3]
His career minor-league managerial record is 290–265 (.523) over four seasons.[4]
In 2005, Morman was inducted into the Kansas City Sports Commission Hall of Fame.
