Rusippisir is thelatinization of the town'sPunic name, which probably meant "CapeRosemary".[1]
Rusippisir was located atCape Tedless (French:Cap Tedles),Algeria,[1] the site of present-dayTaksebt inTizi Ouzou.
Rusippisir was established as acolony on the trade route betweenPhoenicia and theStrait of Gibraltar. Its port was nearbyIomnium (present-dayTigzirt). It later fell underCarthaginian and then, after thePunic Wars,Roman hegemony.Punicsteles in Rusippisir continued to be produced well into theimperial period and there wastophet in the town.[1]
Inantiquity, Rusippisir was the site of aChristianbishopric. This was revived in the 20th century as aCatholictitular see (Latin:Dioecesis Rusubisiritana;Italian:Rusibisir).[2][3]
