Rudolf "Rudi" Hiden (9 March 1909 – 11 September 1973) was an Austrian-Frenchfootballer who played as agoalkeeper forGrazer AK,Wiener AC andRC Paris. He wascapped internationally by theAustria andFrance national teams. In later life, Hiden managed several clubs in Italy, includingPalermo.
Born inAustria and nicknamedRudi, he was a successful Austrian international and in 1930Herbert Chapman'sArsenal tried to sign him, but thePlayers Union andthe Football League in England prevented him from doing so.[1] He moved to France in 1933 to play forRC Paris alongsideAuguste Jordan and later gained French nationality. Goalkeeper of the AustrianWunderteam, he was also capped once forFrance.[2] During the war, he served in the French military, where he also worked as a sports teacher for new recruits.[3]
