Ruža Pospiš-Baldani (Croatian pronunciation:[rǔːʒapɔ̂spiːʃbaldǎni]; born 25 July 1942) is aCroatianoperaticmezzo-soprano.
Baldani was born inVaraždinske Toplice[1] and made her professional opera debut in 1961 at theCroatian National Theatre in Zagreb as Konchakovna inAlexander Borodin'sPrince Igor. She remained active at that theatre and at theNational Theatre in Belgrade throughout the 1960s. In 1965 she made her debut at theMetropolitan Opera in New York City as Maddalena inGiuseppe Verdi'sRigoletto. From 1970 to 1978 she was committed to theBavarian State Opera. Between 1973 and 1987 she was a frequent guest artist at theVienna State Opera; drawing particular acclaim there as Brangäne inRichard Wagner'sTristan und Isolde. In 1976 she made her debut at theParis Opera as Amneris in Verdi'sAida, and made her first appearance at theOpéra de Monte-Carlo in the title role ofGeorges Bizet'sCarmen. She has since appeared as a guest artist at theCologne Opera. theEdinburgh Festival, theGreek National Opera, theHamburg State Opera, theHouston Grand Opera, theHungarian State Opera House,La Scala, theLiceu, theLyric Opera of Chicago, theNational Opera of Sofia, theSalzburg Festival, theSan Francisco Opera, theSavonlinna Opera Festival, theTeatro dell'Opera di Roma, theTeatro di San Carlo, and theTeatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro among others.[2]
