TheRoyal Horse Guards (Danish: Livgarden til Hest) was aCuirassier regiment in theRoyal Danish Army which was founded on orders from KingFrederick III in January 1661 and discontinued on 31 May 1866. It served both asRoyal Guards and as a front linecavalry unit.[3]
The Royal Danish Horse Guards was founded on orders from KingFrederick III inJanuary 1661.[4] They were based atRoyal Horse Guards Barracks next toCopenhagen Castle.
The Royal Horse Guards played a particularly active role in theBattle of Helsingborg in 1710 and theBattle of Gadebusch in 1712 during theGreat Northern War.[4]
The regiment was disbanded on 31 May 1866. It had served both asRoyal Guards and as a front linecavalry unit.[4]
