Roshan Akash Parasram (born May 8, 1978) is aTrinidadianphysician andpublic health consultant, who is the currentChief Medical Officer (CMO) forTrinidad and Tobago since 2013/14.[1] Prior to his appointment asChief Medical Officer, Parasram was a Primary Care Physician II (PCP II); a District Medical Officer (DMO); a County Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) at the Ministry of Health and the former Specialist Medical Officer (SMO), Insect Vector Control Division.[2]
Parasram has been taking a leading role in response to theCOVID-19 pandemic in Trinidad and Tobago, alongside Health MinisterTerrence Deyalsingh and Communications MinisterDonna Cox.
Parasram, the nephew of religious leader and medical doctorRampersad Parasram, and son of Lakshmipersad Parasram and Indra Parasram, studied atPresentation College, Chaguanas. Following this, he was educated at theFaculty of Medicine,University of the West Indies at St. Augustine (M.B.,B.S., 2002) and theLondon School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, University of London (P.G.Dip. Public Health, 2007; M.Sc. Public Health, 2009). He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health (FRSPH, UK). Parasram holds a certificate in Public Procurement Law and Practice.[3]
Parasram worked as amedical intern from 2002 to 2004;primary care physician (PCP) at the North Central Regional Health Authority; District Medical Officer (DMO);specialist medical officer, head of department of Insect Vector Control Division andcounty medical officer of health (CMOH) at the Ministry of Health ofTrinidad and Tobago.
Parasram has been taking a lead role in the Trinidad and Tobago Government's response to theCOVID-19 pandemic in Trinidad and Tobago.
Parasram took part in his first Trinidad and Tobago Government press briefing on 12 March 2020 alongside Health MinisterTerrence Deyalsingh, National Security Minister, Stuart Young and Communications Minister,Donna Cox.[4]
