TheRos (Ukrainian:Рось) is ariver inUkraine, aright tributary of theDnieper. The Ros finds its source in the village of Ordyntsi inPohrebyshche Raion,Vinnytsia Oblast. It is 346 kilometres (215 mi) long, and has adrainage basin of 12,600 square kilometres (4,900 sq mi).[1] Larger settlements on the river areBila Tserkva,Bohuslav, andKorsun-Shevchenkivskyi.[2][3][4]
Some historians have suggested the possibility that the name of theKievan Rus', the oldEast Slavic state, may have originated from the name of the Ros river, part of theanti-Normanist theories of the origin of the Rus'.[citation needed]
