Roque Raúl Alfaro (born 15 August 1956 inNogoyá,Entre Ríos) is anArgentinefootball manager and former player who played as astriker.
Alfaro started his professional career withNewell's Old Boys in the mid-1970s. In 1981, he was signed byPanathinaikos inGreece, and he played under the Greek surname Bistakis.[1] He returned to South America later that year to play forAmérica de Cali inColombia where he won two league championships.[2]
In 1983, he returned to Argentina to play forRiver Plate, he was part of the championship winning team of 1895-1986 and helped the team to win their first everCopa Libertadores in 1986. The club also won the less prestigiousCopa Interamericana during his time at the club.[3]
He was selected to play forArgentina in theCopa América1987. In 1987, he returned to Newell's Old Boys where he won another league title in 1987–1988.[3] Towards the end of his playing career he had a spell inChile playing forO'Higgins until his retirement in 1992.
Alfaro has had spells as manager of Newell's Old Boys,Platense,Independiente RivadaviaSan Martín de San Juan,Textil Mandiyú,[4]Talleres de Perico, among others, in Argentina. Outside Argentina he has taken charge ofO'Higgins in Chile,The Strongest inBolivia,Libertad inParaguay,Macará andOlmedo inEcuador where he led the team to promotion by winning theEcuadorian Serie B in 2003,[5]Alianza Atlético in Peru,[6] among others.
