Roony Bardghji (Arabic:روني بردغجي; born 15 November 2005)[2] is a professionalfootballer who plays as aright winger forLa Liga clubBarcelona. Born in Kuwait, he plays for theSweden national team.
Bardghji was born in Kuwait to anAssyrian family fromAleppo, Syria.[3] He is ofArmenian descent through his paternal grandfather.[4] His family moved toKallinge, Sweden, when he was 6 years old for better opportunities.[5][6]
Arriving in Sweden in 2012, Bardghji played for youth teams of Kallinge SK, Rödeby AIF andMalmö FF.[7]
On 15 November 2020, he moved from Malmö FF toCopenhagen.[8] On 21 November 2021, he made his senior debut for Copenhagen againstAGF in theDanish Superliga,[9] becoming the youngest player to feature at the club, aged 16 years and 6 days, breaking the previous record held byKenneth Zohore.[10] Seven days later, he scored his first goal for Copenhagen in a 3–1 win againstAaB.[11]
On 25 October 2022, Bardghji made hisUEFA Champions League debut, coming off the bench in the 62nd minute, in a 3–0 defeat againstSevilla.[12] On 7 January 2023, he signed a new contract, extending until December 2025.[13]
On 8 November 2023, Bardghji scored the first Champions League goal of his career—an 87th minute winner in a 4–3 win overManchester United.[14] In May 2024, he sustained a serious knee injury during training which would sideline him for 9 to 12 months.[15] He made his return to action on 31 March 2025, coming on as a substitute in a 1–0 victory overRanders, following a 334-day absence.[16]
On 14 July 2025, Bardghji signed a four-year contract withLa Liga sideBarcelona, completing a deal for €2 million, with performance-related add-ons.[17][18] Bardghji was initially registered withBarcelona Atlètic but did not play any matches with the reserve team.[19]
Later that year, on 14 September, he made his debut for Barcelona in a 6–0 victory overValencia.[20] A month later, on 21 October, he recorded his first assist for the club in a 6–1 win overOlympiacos in theChampions League.[21] Later that year, on 6 December, he scored his first La Liga goal in a 5–3 away win overReal Betis.[22]
In the2026 Supercopa de España, Bardghji scored a goal and provided two assists in the semi-final againstAthletic Bilbao. He went on to win the2026 Supercopa de España after Barcelona won thefinal againstReal Madrid.
Prior to the2026 Supercopa de España final, Bardghji was registered as a first team player and given the number 19.[19]
Bardghji made his international debut for theSweden U17 team on 7 August 2021. He also played for theSweden U21 team, with his debut on 2 June 2022.[23]
On 1 October 2025, Bardghji was called up to theSweden national football team for the first time. On 10 October 2025, Bardghji made his first appearance for the national team in the 85th minute of a 2–0 loss againstSwitzerland in the2026 UEFA World cup qualifiers.[24]
