Ronald "Ronnie" Duane (born 31 May 1963), also known by thenickname of"Rhino", is an English former professionalrugby league footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s. He played at representative level forGreat Britain, and at club level forWarrington,Oldham andRochdale Hornets as acentre, orsecond-row.
Ronnie Duane's birth was registered inNewton,St. Helens,Lancashire, England.
Born inWarrington, Duane joined his hometown club fromWoolston Rovers in April 1981. He made his debut forWarrington in October 1981 againstHull.[2]
Duane playedcentre inWarrington's 16–0 victory overSt Helens in the1982 Lancashire Cup Final during the1982–83 season atCentral Park,Wigan on Saturday 23 October 1982, and played as ansubstitute, replacingSecond-rowGary Sanderson, in the 24–16 victory overOldham in the1989 Lancashire Cup Final during the1989–90 season atKnowsley Road,St. Helens on Saturday 14 October 1989,[3]
Duane played as asubstitute, replacingScrum-halfSteve Peters, in the 4–18 defeat byWigan in the1986–87 John Player Special Trophy Final during the1986–87 season atCentral Park,Wigan on Saturday 10 January 1987.[4]
In 2011, Duane was inducted into Warrington's Hall of Fame.[2]
In July 1990, Duane was signed byOldham for an undisclosed fee.[5]
In August 1991, Duane and Oldham teammateBrett Clark were sold toRochdale Hornets in exchange forNeil Holding.[6]
Duane played and scored atry inRochdale Hornets 14–24 defeat bySt Helens in the1991–92 Lancashire Cup Final during the1991–92 season atWilderspool Stadium,Warrington, on Sunday 20 October 1991.
He finished his playing career withSwinton, where he was appointed as club captain.[7]
Ronnie Duane woncaps forGreat Britain while at Warrington in 1983 against France (2 matches), and in 1984 against France,[1] he played in Great Britain's 40-13 victory overNorthern Territory during the1984 Great Britain Lions tour atDarwin, Northern Territory, his tour lasted nine minutes before he was injured with torn knee-ligaments.[8]
