Roman Twardy is a German teacher, academic lecturer and the conductor of theWiesbadener Knabenchor boys' choir inWiesbaden,Hesse, Germany. The choir appears internationally and has made recordings. From 2019, Twardy is also interim conductor of the church choirChor von St. Bonifatius in Wiesbaden.
Twardy was introduced to music as a member of theKiedricher Chorbuben boys' choir.[1] He studied musicology, music pedagogy and composition at theMusikhochschule Mainz and choral conducting at theHochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin.[2]
He taught music at theOranienschule [de] in Wiesbaden, including the theatre group, orchestra and string classes.[2] He was also a lecturer of composition (Tonsatz [de]) and listening (Hörschulung) at theMusikhochschule Mainz.[2] He is a teacher of German studies and music at a boarding school for gifted children, theInternatsschule Schloss Hansenberg.[2]

Twardy has been the conductor of theWiesbadener Knabenchor boys' choir since 2001, leading them in concerts, on tours and for recordings.[1][3] In 2005, they made the first recording ofJohann Mattheson'sPassion oratorioDas Lied des Lammes, which had been lost.[4] Twardy chose works from the 16th to the 21st century, including compositions byJohann Sebastian Bach,Felix Mendelssohn,Johannes Brahms,Robert Schumann andSylke Zimpel, for a CD in 2009, when the choir celebrated its 50th anniversary.[5][6] In 2010, he conducted the choir in a concert of Handel'sMessiah at theMarktkirche Wiesbaden, with soloistsElisabeth Scholl,Andreas Scholl,Andreas Karasiak and Florian Plock.[7] The choir performs regularly in concerts duringAdvent in Wiesbaden churches such asSt. Bonifatius and the Christuskirche.[3] For their artistic work as "ambassadors" of the capital, Twardy and the choir were awarded the Culture Prize of the City of Wiesbaden in 2013.[8]
From 2019, Twardy has been the interim conductor of theChor von St. Bonifatius in Wiesbaden, succeedingGabriel Dessauer.[9] In his first choral concert there on 26 October 2019, he conducted Dvořák'sStabat Mater with the choir, members of the orchestra of theHessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, and soloists including sopranoBetsy Horne and bassJohannes Hill.[10] A review noted the good preparation over months, leading to fine intonation and rhythmic precision, especially ina cappella passages.[11]
