Roger Craig Smith (born August 11, 1975)[1][2] is an American voice actor. He is known for his voice roles in video games such asChris Redfield in theResident Evil series (2009–2017),Ezio Auditore da Firenze in theAssassin's Creed series (2009–2011), Kyle Crane inDying Light (2015) as well as inDying Light: The Beast (2025),Sonic the Hedgehog, E-123 Omega, and the Wisp Announcer (among other characters) in theSonic the Hedgehog series (2010–present), and Mirage inApex Legends. In addition, he has voicedCaptain America in severalMarvel projects, andBatman inBatman: Arkham Origins (2013),Batman: Arkham Shadow (2024), and several otherDC projects featuring the character.[3]
Smith was born inSt. Joseph, Michigan and raised inTustin, California.[4][5] He is ofScotch-Irish descent. Smith acted in productions while at non-profit organization MYART in middle school as well as atFoothill High School.[4] He attendedChapman University where he briefly performed stand-up comedy for five years.[6] He graduated from the Chapman University'sDodge College of Film and Media Arts in 2003 with a degree in screenwriting. While studying at Chapman, he hosted a local variety show.[7][8][6] Upon graduating from college, he left stand-up comedy and begin pursuing voice acting full time in 2004, his stand-up routines also helped him in his approach to his voice acting career.[6][9][10]
Smith's voice work has been called upon by companies such asDisney/Disney Television Animation,Cartoon Network,Xbox Game Studios,Sony,Wal-Mart,Baskin-Robbins,E! andTLC.[11][12]
Since 2007, he has been the narrator forSay Yes to the Dress.[13]
Smith became the third official voice of theSega characterSonic the Hedgehog inthe video game series of the same name beginning in 2010, replacingJason Griffith.[14][15][16] Outside of the video games, he reprised the role as the character again in the animated spin-off television seriesSonic Boom,[17] as well as in cameo roles inWreck-It Ralph and its sequelRalph Breaks the Internet. In January 2021, he revealed on his Twitter account that he would no longer be voicing the character,[18][19] which was later retracted in May 2021, when he announced his return to the franchise.[20][21]
