Rodrick Almar Rutledge (born August 12, 1975) is an American former professionalfootball player who was atight end for five seasons with theNew England Patriots andHouston Texans of theNational Football League (NFL). He was selected in the second round of the1998 NFL draft.[1]
Rutledge was the first player to ever catch a pass fromTom Brady, a 6-yard reception onThanksgiving Day 2000 against theDetroit Lions.[2] Known more for his blocking than his pass catching, Rutledge was a key member of theSuper Bowl XXXVI champion Patriots.[3]
