Rivkah Sarah "Robby"Hoffman (born December 2, 1989) is an American-Canadian writer, comedian, actress, and talk show host. Born inBrooklyn, New York, she began her career as a writer and is known for her work onThe Chris Gethard Show,Baroness Von Sketch Show,Workin' Moms, andOdd Squad, the latter of which won anEmmy Award forOutstanding Writing for a Children's, Preschool Children's, Family Viewing in 2019. Hoffman released her first stand-up special,I'm Nervous, in 2019. She was named one ofComedy Central'sUp Next comedians in 2018, appeared onConan O'Brien'sComics to Watch list,[1] as well as onVulture'sThe Comedians You Should and Will Know in 2020.[2]

Hoffman was nominated in 2025 for aPrimetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her recurring role as Randi in theHBO Max comedy-dramaHacks. TheNew York Times called her "a breakout star" and a "fan favorite."[3]

Early life and education

Rivkah Sarah Hoffman[4] was born inBrooklyn, New York, the seventh of ten siblings in aHasidic Jewish family.[5][6] Hoffman jokingly described her parents, who initially practicedReform Judaism and laterbegan to practice Hasidic Judaism: "They're two people who joined a Hasidic cult and had ten kids, and I'm the product of it."[7] Her mother later became aMessianic Jew.[7] During her early childhood, Hoffman's parents divorced; she and her siblings were subsequently raised by their single mother in her nativeMontreal, Canada.[8] Hoffman has said her mother struggled financially to support their family, and that she lived in poverty.[9]

After attending private high school Bialik Secondary School, Hoffman enrolled atMcGill University, where she studied accounting and communications; after graduation, she enrolled in the graduateCPA program at McGill, only to quit a few hours into her first day of the program to pursue a career in comedy.[6]

Career

Hoffman began her writing career and was soon garnering recognition for her work, while also writing and performing stand-up comedy. In 2018, she was a headlining act for the New York Comedy Festival.[10] In 2019, she recorded her first one-hour comedy specialI'm Nervous at theJust For Laughs comedy festival in Toronto forCrave TV.[6]

Hoffman's first television writing job was for thePBS seriesOdd Squad; she won a 2019Daytime Emmy Award for her work on the series.[2] Hoffman was a staff writer forWorkin' Moms andBaroness Von Sketch Show.[5] She was a staff writer onThe Chris Gethard Show; after its cancellation, Hoffman starred in episodes ofThe Chris Gethard Show with Robby Hoffman[11] on bothMNN andChris Gethard Presents, as well as taking the show live to the MontrealJust For Laughs festival. She hostedRobby Hoffman Consulting Group (formerlyDykevice), a live call-in advice show on Gethard's comedy networkPlanet Scum Live.[12]

In 2021, it was announced thatRivkah, an autobiographical comedy series created by and starring Hoffman, is in development withShowtime andA24.[13]

She received aJuno Award nomination forComedy Album of the Year at theJuno Awards of 2026, for her comedy albumI'm Nervous.[14]

Personal life

Hoffman is a lesbian.[6] According to her, her family was supportive when she came out, and she is close to them.[15]

In August 2023, Hoffman announced her relationship withThe Bachelorette alumnaGabby Windey.[16] Hoffman and Windey were married in January 2025.[17][18]
