Robert "Robbie" Mulhern (born 18 October 1994) is a professionalrugby league footballer who plays as aprop for theLeigh Leopards in theSuper League.[3] Mulhern has representedIreland,England and theEngland Knights at international level.[1]

He has previously played for theLeeds Rhinos in theSuper League, and on loan fromLeeds at theHunslet Hawks in theChampionship. Mulhern also played for theWarrington Wolves andHull Kingston Rovers in the Super League and theChampionship, and on loan fromHull KR atNewcastle Thunder inLeague 1.

Mulhern was born in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, England.

Early career

As a junior he played for the Castleford Panthers, Normanton Knights and he spent time in theWakefield Trinity Wildcats' Academy System.

Senior career

Leeds Rhinos

Mulhern made only five appearances for theLeeds Rhinos during 2014 and 2015.[citation needed]

Hunslet Hawks

Mulhern was loaned to theHunslet Hawks in the 2015rugby league season. He made twenty appearances and scored two tries.[citation needed]

Hull Kingston Rovers

Mulhern joinedHull Kingston Rovers ahead of the 2016Super League season. Mulhern suffered relegation from theSuper League withHull Kingston Rovers in the 2016 season, due to losing theMillion Pound Game by theSalford Red Devils.[citation needed]

12-months later however, Mulhern was part of theHull Kingston Rovers' side that won promotion back to theSuper League, at the first time of asking following relegation the season prior. It was revealed on 1 May 2018, that Mulhern had signed a new long-term contract, to remain atHull Kingston Rovers until at least the end of the 2021rugby league season.

Warrington Wolves

It was announced on 10 December 2020 that Mulhern would be joiningWarrington in a two-year swap deal withLuis Johnson for the 2021 season.[4]

Leigh

On 20 October 2022, it was announced that Mulhern had signed a contract to join the newly promotedLeigh side.[5]On 12 August 2023, Mulhern played for Leigh in the 2023 Challenge Cup final victory over Hull Kingston Rovers.[6]Mulhern played 27 games for Leigh in the 2023 Super League season as the club finished fifth on the table and qualified for the playoffs. He played in their elimination playoff loss against Hull Kington Rovers.[7]Mulhern played 22 games for Leigh in the 2024 Super League season which saw the club finish fifth on the table. He played in the clubs semi-final loss against Wigan.[8]

England

It was revealed on 16 October 2018, that Mulhern would be making hisEngland début as an interchange againstFrance on 17 October 2018, in aTest match at theLeigh Sports Village.[10][11]

England defeated theFrench 44-6, with Mulhern making an appearance from off the bench.[12][13]

He won his second cap in Game 3 win overTonga of the2023 Tonga tour of England atHeadingley.[14]

England Knights

Following Mulhern's exceptional season forHull Kingston Rovers,[15] it was revealed by theRugby Football League on 24 July 2018, that Mulhern had been added to the 25-manEngland Knights' Performance Squad, that would be touringPapua New Guinea for a two-gameTest match series later in the year.[16]

In 2018 he was selected for theEngland Knights on their tour ofPapua New Guinea, and Mulhern would be linking-up with his thenHull Kingston Rovers teammateChris Atkin, who was already previously announced within theKnights' fold.

Mulhern made his début for theEngland Knights againstPapua New Guinea on 27 October 2018, the game played inLae ended in a 12-16 victory to theKnights.[17] He played againstPapua New Guinea at the Oil Search National Football Stadium.[18]
