Rio is a series of animated films produced by20th Century Animation, with the first two films being produced byBlue Sky Studios. It currently consists of two feature films and two licensed video games, with a third film in early development without Blue Sky's involvement. The films feature the voices ofJesse Eisenberg,Anne Hathaway,Jemaine Clement,Leslie Mann,George Lopez,will.i.am,Jamie Foxx, andTracy Morgan among others.

Created by Carlos Saldanha, the series focuses on Blu, a domesticatedSpix's macaw who is the last of his species and is transported from his home ofMoose Lake, Minnesota toRio de Janeiro to mate with Jewel, the last known female of his species.

Rio (2011)

A domesticatedSpix's macaw named Blu, the last known male of his species, and his owner Linda are invited to travel toRio de Janeiro by anOrnithologist named Túlio in an effort to save the species fromextinction by introducing Blu to the last known female, Jewel. In Rio de Janeiro the birds are captured by a gang ofsmugglers with the help of acockatoo named Nigel, and spend the majority of the film attempting to escape.

Blu, Jewel, their three chicks and their friends travel to theAmazon rainforest where Linda and Túlio discover there may be more wild Spix’s macaws. There, Jewel is reunited with her long lost father and Blu struggles to impress him and adapt to the wild. Meanwhile, Nigel seeks revenge on Blu after what he did to him fromthe first film.

In amedia kit released by Disney on the production of the 2022 filmThe Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, it is mentioned that the film's co-writer Ray DeLaurentis is working on "the next installment in theRio franchise".[3][4]

Rio: The 4-D Experience is a 12-minute4D film first released on September 27, 2013. It was shown at various cinemas across the United States and at theRoxy Theatre in Australia.[5]

The film is composed of the major scenes from the firstRio film with added immersive effects.

Angry Birds Rio was a 2011puzzlevideo game developed and published byRovio Entertainment. Serving as the third installment in theAngry Birds series, it was released on March 22, 2011,[6] and promoted as a marketing tie-in withRio.[7] While utilizing the same basic gameplay asAngry Birds,Angry Birds Rio introduced several new elements to the series, most notablyboss levels.Angry Birds Rio was discontinued on February 3, 2020, along withAngry Birds Star Wars,Angry Birds Space andAngry Birds Star Wars II. It is no longer available to download from any official source.

Rio is a video game released on April 12, 2011, for theWii,Nintendo DS,PlayStation 3, and theXbox 360. It was developed byEurocom and published byTHQ.[8] The gameplay consists of various multiplayer minigames following the events of theRio film.
