Brandon Lee Birdsell (born March 23, 2000) is an American professionalbaseballpitcher in theChicago Cubs organization.

Birdsell attendedWillis High School inWillis, Texas, and playedcollege baseball atTexas A&M University in 2019,San Jacinto College in 2020, andTexas Tech in 2021 and 2022.[1] He appeared in seven games for Texas Tech in 2021 before he underwent rotator cuff surgery, ending his season.[2] He was selected by theMinnesota Twins in the 11th round of the2021 Major League Baseball draft but did not sign.[3] In 2022, he started 15 games for Texas Tech and went 9-3 with a 2.75 ERA over 85 innings.[4] After the season, he was selected by theChicago Cubs in the fifth round of the2022 Major League Baseball draft.[5] He signed for $385,000.[6]

Birdsell made his professional debut in 2023 with theSouth Bend Cubs and was promoted to theTennessee Smokies in August.[7] Over 24 starts between the two teams, he went 4-8 with a 2.77 ERA and 97 strikeouts over107+13 innings.[8] He opened the 2024 season with Tennessee and was promoted to theIowa Cubs July. Over 27 games (26 starts) between the two teams, Birdsell went 8-9 with a 3.91 ERA and 134 strikeouts and was named Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Year.[9]

Birdsell opened the 2025 season on the injured list with alat strain.[10] He went on to make eight starts split between the rookie-levelArizona Complex League Cubs, South Bend, and Iowa, accumulating a 2-2 record and 2.94 ERA with 33 strikeouts. On August 27, 2025, it was announced that Birdsell would require surgery on his right elbow.[11]

Ausley Burl Carraway (born May 27, 1999) is an American professionalbaseballpitcher in theChicago Cubs organization.

Carraway attendedA&M Consolidated High School inCollege Station, Texas, and playedcollege baseball atDallas Baptist University. As a junior in 2019, he went 4–2 with a 2.81 ERA and six saves over41+23 innings.[12] That summer, he played for theUSA Baseball Collegiate National Team,[13] as well as playingcollegiate summer baseball with theChatham Anglers of theCape Cod Baseball League.[14] He pitched9+13 innings in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to theCOVID-19 pandemic. He was selected by theChicago Cubs in the second round with the 51st overall selection of the2020 Major League Baseball draft.[15] He signed for $1.1 million.[16]

Carraway made his professional debut in 2021 with theSouth Bend Cubs and was promoted to theTennessee Smokies at the end of the season. Over35+23 relief innings pitched between the two clubs, he went 3–3 with a 5.30 ERA and 54 strikeouts.[17] He opened the 2022 season with Tennessee.[18] Due to injury, he pitched only ten innings in which he gave up 12 runs and 24 walks.[19] He missed all of the 2023 season due to injury.[20]

Kohl Riddle Franklin (born September 9, 1999) is an American professionalbaseballpitcher in theChicago Cubs organization.

Franklin attendedBroken Arrow High School inBroken Arrow, Oklahoma. He missed a majority of his senior baseball season in 2018 while nursing a fractured foot.[21][22] After the season, he was selected by theChicago Cubs in the sixth round (188th overall) of the2018 Major League Baseball draft.[23][24] He signed with the Cubs for $540,000, forgoing his college commitment to theUniversity of Oklahoma.[25]

Franklin made his professional debut that year with theRookie-levelArizona League Cubs, compiling a 6.23 ERA over8+23 innings.[26] In 2019, he spent a majority of the season with theEugene Emeralds of theClass A Short SeasonNorthwest League, pitching to a 1–3 record with a 2.31 ERA over ten starts, striking out 49 batters over 39 innings.[27] Near the end of the season, he was promoted to theSouth Bend Cubs of theClass AMidwest League and pitched in one game for them.[28] Franklin did not play a minor league game in 2020 due to the cancellation of the minor league season caused by theCOVID-19 pandemic.[29] He missed all of the 2021 season due to an oblique injury and shoulder strain.[30][31] He was assigned to South Bend (now members of theHigh-AMidwest League) for the 2022 season.[32] Over 23 starts, he went 3–7 with a 6.88 ERA, 75 strikeouts, and 41 walks over69+13 innings.[33] To open the 2023 season, Franklin returned to South Bend.[34] In mid-May, he was promoted to theTennessee Smokies of theDouble-ASouthern League.[35] Over 26 starts between the two teams, Franklin went 4-12 with a 5.40 ERA and 116 strikeouts over 105 innings.[36] He was assigned back to Tennessee to open the 2024 season but pitched only six innings for the year.[37] Franklin underwentTommy John surgery, and returned to play in 2025 with a rehab appearance with South Bend, but appeared in only one game before being placed back on the 60-day injured list.[38]

Franklin's father, Jay Franklin, is a baseball agent as well as the president of BBI Sports Group, representing MLB players such asDylan Bundy,Ian Kinsler, andArchie Bradley.[39][40][41] He is also the nephew of former MLB pitcherRyan Franklin.[42]

Cristian De Jesus Hernández (born December 13, 2003) is a Dominican professionalbaseballshortstop in theChicago Cubs organization.

Hernández was considered one of the top international free agents in the 2021 class.[43] He signed with theChicago Cubs in January 2021, and made his professional debut that year with theDominican Summer League Cubs.[44][45][46]

Hernández played 2022 with theArizona Complex League Cubs and 2023 with theMyrtle Beach Pelicans. He started 2024 with Myrtle Beach before being promoted to theSouth Bend Cubs and started 2025 with South Bend.

Jonathon Brian Long (born January 20, 2002) is an American professionalbaseballfirst baseman in theChicago Cubs organization.

Long attendedOrange High School inOrange, California, and playedcollege baseball atLong Beach State University. He joined the team as awalk-on as a freshman in 2021.[47] In 2022, he playedcollegiate summer baseball with theYarmouth–Dennis Red Sox of theCape Cod Baseball League.[48] As a junior at Long Beach State in 2023, Long appeared in 55 games and hit .312 with 15 home runs and 52 RBIs.[49] He was selected by theChicago Cubs in the ninth round of the2023 Major League Baseball draft and signed.[50]

Long split his first professional season between theArizona League Cubs and theMyrtle Beach Pelicans, batting .274 with seven home runs and 14 RBIs over 26 games between both teams.[51] He was assigned to theSouth Bend Cubs to open the 2024 season and was promoted to theTennessee Smokies in mid-July.[52] Over 114 games between the two teams, Long compiled aslash line of .283/.391/.461 with 17 home runs and seventy RBIs. After the season, he was selected to play in theArizona Fall League with theMesa Solar Sox and hit .338 with six home runs over 18 games.[53] Long was assigned to theIowa Cubs for the 2025 season.[54] Over 140 games, he hit .305 with 20 home runs and 91 RBIs.[55]

Riley Cole Martin (born March 19, 1998) is an Americanprofessional baseballpitcher for theChicago Cubs ofMajor League Baseball (MLB).

Martin playedcollege baseball atQuincy University.[56] In his final season with the Hawks he went 9-3 with a 3.55 ERA and struck out 152 batters over78+23 innings pitched.[57]

Martin was selected in the sixth round of the2021 MLB draft by theChicago Cubs.[58] He was assigned to theMyrtle Beach Pelicans of theLow-A East after signing with the team. Martin returned Myrtle Beach at the start of the 2022 season before being promoted to theSouth Bend Cubs of theHigh-AMidwest League..[59] He split the 2023 season between theDouble-ATennessee Smokies and theTriple-AIowa Cubs. Martin spent the entire 2024 season with the Iowa Cubs, appearing in 43 games and going 4-4 with a 4.48 ERA.[60]

Martin made 47 appearances for Triple-A Iowa in 2025, posting a 6-2 record and 2.69 ERA with 80 strikeouts and four saves across63+23 innings pitched. On November 18, 2025, the Cubs added Martin to their40-man roster to protect him from theRule 5 draft.[61]

Greyson Cole Mathis (born July 25, 2003) is an American professionalbaseballfirst baseman in theChicago Cubs organization. He playedcollege baseball for theCharleston Cougars.

Mathis grew up inCataula, Georgia and attendedHarris County High School.[62]

Mathis playedcollege baseball for theCollege of Charleston Cougars as atwo-way player. As a sophomore, he slashed .330/.439/.575 with nine home runs while also posting a 5-1 record with a team-best 3.45 ERA over 14 pitching appearances.[63] In 2023, he playedcollegiate summer baseball with theCotuit Kettleers of theCape Cod Baseball League, and was named a league all-star.[64] Mathis was named first team All-CAA after batting .335 with 17 doubles, 14 home runs, 57 RBIs, and 63 runs scored during his junior season.[65]

Mathis was drafted by theChicago Cubs in the second round of2024 Major League Baseball draft.[66] He signed with the Cubs on July 22 and received a $1,681,200 signing bonus.[67]

Haydn McGeary (born October 19, 1999) is an American professionalbaseballfirst baseman in theChicago Cubs organization.

McGeary attendedThunderbird High School inPhoenix, Arizona, and playedcollege baseball atColorado Mesa University.[68] He was drafted by theChicago Cubs in the 15th round of the2022 Major League Baseball draft.[69] He was originally going to transfer to theUniversity of Kentucky, but signed with the Cubs.

McGeary made his professional debut with the Arizona Complex League Cubs and was later promoted to theMyrtle Beach Pelicans.[70] He started 2023 with theSouth Bend Cubs before being promoted to theTennessee Smokies.

Bertram Gerard Alfonzo Murray Jr. (born January 5, 2000) is a Bahamian professionalbaseballthird baseman in theChicago Cubs organization.

Murray playedcollege baseball atFlorida Atlantic. He hit .203 in 15 games during his sophomore season before it was cut short due to thecoronavirus pandemic.[71] Murray was named second team All-Conference USA as a junior after batting .317 with 14 home runs and 52 RBIs.[72]

Murray was selected in the 15th round of the2021 Major League Baseball draft by theChicago Cubs.[73] After signing with the team he was assigned to theLow-AMyrtle Beach Pelicans, where he hit .305 over 39 games before being promoted to theSouth Bend Cubs of theHigh-AMidwest League.[74] Murray began the 2023 season with theDouble-ATennessee Smokies.[75] He was selected to play in the 2023All-Star Futures Game.[76]

Connor Julian Noland (born July 20, 1999) is an American professionalbaseballpitcher in theChicago Cubs organization.

Noland was born inGreenwood, Arkansas and lived there until his family moved toTampa, Florida when he was five. His family moved again toReno, Nevada when he was 12.[77] Noland initially attendedBishop Manogue High School and was the starting quarterback on the football team as a freshman. After one semester, he moved back to Greenwood and lived with his grandmother and enrolled atGreenwood High School.[78]

Noland played college baseball and college football at Arkansas. He made one start at quarterback against Tulsa during his freshman season.[79] In baseball, Nolan went 3-5 with a 4.02 ERA over 19 starts.[80] After his freshman year he decided to focus solely on baseball.[81] In 2021, Noland made nine pitching appearances, all in relief, and had a 6.91 ERA.[82] As a senior, he made 19 starts and went 8-6 with a 3.65 ERA and 113 strikeouts.[83]

Noland was selected in the 9th round by theChicago Cubs in the2022 Major League Baseball draft.[84] He signed with the team on July 23, 2022, and received a $140,000 signing bonus.[85] Noland was assigned to theSouth Bend Cubs of theHigh-AMidwest League at the beginning of the 2023 season.[86]

Reginald Jamel Preciado (born May 16, 2003) is a Panamanian professionalbaseballshortstop in theChicago Cubs organization.

Preciado signed with theSan Diego Padres as an international free agent in 2019 for a $1.3 millionsigning bonus.[87] He was then traded to the Cubs along withZach Davies,Owen Caissie, Ismael Mena, and Yeison Santana forYu Darvish andVictor Caratini on December 30, 2020.[88]

Preciado was promoted to theArizona Complex League in the 2021 season, posting a .333/.383/.511/.894 slash line with 3 home runs in 34 games.

Tyler Robert Schlaffer (born May 24, 2001) is an American professionalbaseballpitcher in theChicago Cubs organization.

Schlaffer attendedHomewood-Flossmoor High School inFlossmoor, Illinois where he played baseball. As a senior in 2019, he went 7-2 with a 1.81 ERA.[93] He was selected by theChicago Cubs in the ninth round of the2019 Major League Baseball draft.[94][95] He signed with the team, forgoing his commitment to playcollege baseball at theUniversity of Illinois Chicago.

Schlaffer made his professional debut after signing with theArizona Complex League Cubs, appearing in three games.[96] After not playing a professional game in 2020 due to the cancellation of the season caused by theCOVID-19 pandemic, he made 12 starts in 2021 between the Arizona Complex League and theMyrtle Beach Pelicans, going 4-6 with a 4.58 ERA over 55 innings. In 2022, he made 18 starts for Myrtle Beach and went 4-3 with a 3.82 ERA and 84 strikeouts over75+13 innings, and he also made one start for theSouth Bend Cubs.[97] Schlaffer did not play in 2023 due to injury.[98] He returned to play in 2024 with South Bend and Myrtle Beach and went 3-3 with a 5.29 ERA over78+13 innings. He opened the 2025 season with South Bend, with whom he was namedMidwest League Pitcher of the Week, and was promoted to theKnoxville Smokies in July.[99]

James Douglas Triantos (born January 29, 2003) is an American professionalbaseballsecond baseman andcenter fielder for theChicago Cubs ofMajor League Baseball (MLB).

Triantos attended and played high school baseball atJames Madison High School in Vienna, Virginia.[100] During his senior year, he hit .712 while striking out only twice and also pitched to a 1.18 ERA, leading his team to a Class 6A State Championship.[101][102] He was reclassified from the 2022 draft class to the 2021 class and was selected in thedraft's second round by the Cubs. He signed for $2.1 million, forgoing his commitment to playcollege baseball at theUniversity of North Carolina.[100] He saw limited action with the rookie-levelArizona Complex League Cubs during his first professional season, and posted a .327/.376/.594 slash line in 25 games.

In 2025, Triantos made 110 appearances for the High-ASouth Bend Cubs and Triple-AIowa Cubs, batting .259/.315/.370 with seven home runs, 47 RBI, and 31 stolen bases. On November 18, 2025, the Cubs added Triantos to their40-man roster to protect him from theRule 5 draft.[103]
