Richard G. Salomon is the William P. and Ruth Gerberding University Professor in the Department of Asian Languages and Literature at theUniversity of Washington.^[1]

Salomon is aSanskrit,Pali andPrakrit-languages scholar, known for his studies on Indianepigraphy.^[2][3] He is also a specialist in earlyIndianBuddhism studies.^[4]

Salomon received his Ph.D. in Sanskrit (with Distinction) from theUniversity of Pennsylvania in 1975 and a B.A. in Oriental Studies (minor in Religion) fromColumbia University in 1970.^[1]

In 2016, the Puget Sound Association ofPhi Beta Kappa honored him with its Humanities Achievement Award "in recognition of his study of theGandharan manuscripts, which illuminate the oldest period of Buddhist culture for which documents exist, and the dissemination of its results."^[5]
