Richard Gibson Andrews (born December 22, 1955) is aseniorUnited States district judge of theUnited States District Court for the District of Delaware. He is a formerDelaware state prosecutor andassistant United States attorney.
Andrews earned aBachelor of Arts degree fromHaverford College in 1977 and aJuris Doctor from theUniversity of California, Berkeley School of Law in 1981.[1] From 1981 until 1982, Andrews served as alaw clerk for JudgeCollins J. Seitz on theUnited States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.[1][2]
From 1983 until 2006, Andrews worked as anassistant United States attorney for the District of Delaware.[1] In 2007, Andrews was chosen asstate prosecutor for the state of Delaware.[1][2]
On May 11, 2011, PresidentBarack Obama nominated Andrews to a seat on theUnited States District Court for the District of Delaware, to fill the vacancy created when JudgeJoseph James Farnan Jr. retired on July 31, 2010.[2] On September 8, 2011, theSenate Judiciary Committee reported his nomination to the Senate floor byvoice vote. On November 3, 2011, the Senate confirmed Andrews byunanimous consent. He received his commission on November 7, 2011. He assumedsenior status on December 31, 2023.[2]
