Richard A. Parker (29 January 1953 – 26 January 2024[1]) was a mathematician and freelance computer programmer born inSurrey who lived for much of his life inCambridge,England. He invented many of the algorithms for computing the modular character tables of finitesimple groups. He discovered the relation betweenNiemeier lattices anddeep holes of theLeech lattice, and constructed Parker'sMoufang loop of order 213[2] (which was used byJohn Horton Conway in his construction of themonster group).
