History

[edit]

Mae Young Classic and first feud (2018–2020)

[edit]

Years before forming their team, both Ripley and Sky (who by then was wrestling under the ring name Io Shirai) wrestled each other in the semi-finals of the2018 Mae Young Classic on August 9, 2018 (which aired on October 24 ontape delay), in which Shirai emerged victorious. Later, both Ripley and Shirai joined theNXTbrand and were on opposite teams at theNXT TakeOver: WarGames event on November 23, 2019, where Ripley's team ended up winning. The following night atSurvivor Series, Ripley and Shirai teamed up for the first time as they were part of Team NXT in the first-ever 5-on-5-on-5 women'sSurvivor Series match, which Team NXT won with both Ripley and Shirai as two of the three survivors, alongsideCandice LeRae.[1] In mid-2020, both Ripley and Shirai became involved in a three-way feud withNXT Women's ChampionCharlotte Flair, leading to atriple threat match atTakeOver: In Your House on June 7, where Shirai emerged victorious to win her first title in WWE. On the November 18 episode ofNXT, Shirai successfully defended her title against Ripley.[2]

WarGames partners (2020–2024)

[edit]

AtTakeOver: WarGames on December 6, Ripley and Shirai were both a part of Team Blackheart (themselves,Shotzi Blackheart, andEmber Moon), losing to Team LeRae (LeRae,Toni Storm,Dakota Kai, andRaquel González) after González pinned Shirai.[3] On November 26, 2022, atSurvivor Series: WarGames, Ripley and Shirai (now going by her Iyo Sky ring name) joined forces once again as part of TeamDamage CTRL (thestable that Sky was part of) in a losing effort against Team Belair (Bianca Belair,Alexa Bliss,Asuka,Mia Yim, andBecky Lynch). Two years later atSurvivor Series: WarGames, Ripley and Sky joined forces yet again in anotherWarGames match, teaming up with Belair,Naomi, andBayley to defeatThe Judgment Day (Liv Morgan andRaquel Rodriguez),Nia Jax,Tiffany Stratton, and LeRae after Ripley pinned Morgan.[4]

Second feud (2025)

[edit]

On the March 3, 2025 episode ofRaw, Sky defeated Ripley to win theWomen's World Championship. This win made Sky the seventh women'sGrand Slam champion, the tenth women'sTriple Crown champion in WWE, and the first wrestler to become a Grand Slam champion in Japan and America.[5] On the March 31 episode ofRaw, Sky defended the title against Ripley with Belair as thespecial guest referee, but the match ended in a double disqualification. This led to a triple threat match on Night 2 ofWrestleMania 41 on April 20,[6][7] where Sky retained the title.[8]Dave Meltzer of theWrestling Observer Newsletter rated the matchfive stars, making it the first women's match in WWE history to receive such a rating.[9] AtEvolution on July 13, Sky lost the title to Naomi, as she successfully cashed in herMoney in the Bank briefcase during Sky's title defense against Ripley, ending her reign at 132 days.[10] On Night 2 ofSummerSlam on August 3, Sky failed to regain the title from Naomi in a triple threat match also involving Ripley, whom Naomi pinned.[11]

WWE Women's Tag Team Champions (2025–present)

[edit]

Afterwards, Ripley and Sky maintained a friendly relationship, much to the dismay of Sky's former Damage CTRL stablematesThe Kabuki Warriors (Asuka andKairi Sane), but more specifically Asuka, who confronted Sky multiple times, claiming that Sky should end her friendship with Ripley. AtWrestlepalooza, Sky was scheduled to faceStephanie Vaquer for thevacant title, where Asuka stated that she and Sane would help her win, but Sky declined their help; Sky subsequently lost the match.[12] Two nights later onRaw, Asuka confronted Vaquer, stating that Sky should have won the title instead. Ripley then interrupted her, stating that she was tired of Asuka's behavior. This led to a match between Ripley and Asuka being scheduled for later that night, but before that, Sky asked Ripley to call off the match, which Ripley declined, and stated that Sky should be careful with Asuka, which infuriated Sky. Later, Ripley defeated Asuka. Following the match, Asuka spat mist on Ripley before Sky made the save. However, Asuka performed a spinning backfist on Sky, betraying her. After that, Asuka and a conflicted Sane attacked Sky and Ripley.[13] On the following episode, Ripley called out The Kabuki Warriors, with Sky appearing instead. Sky then stated that Ripley was right about Asuka and Sane, but stated they were family and she still loved them. The Kabuki Warriors then appeared on the titantron, and Asuka said that she would forgive Sky if she apologized to her. Sky then left, only for the Kabuki Warriors to attack Ripley, prompting Sky to intervene. Asuka then spat mist on Sky before continuing the attack on Ripley. Later that night, Sane tried to convince Sky to apologize to Asuka, which Sky refused and told Sane to leave her alone. Sky subsequently revealed to Ripley that, after speaking with Raw General ManagerAdam Pearce, she and Ripley, in the latter's home country of Australia, would face The Kabuki Warriors in atag team match atCrown Jewel, where Ripley and Sky emerged victorious.[14]

OnRaw's Netflix Anniversary Show on January 5, 2026, Rhiyo defeated The Kabuki Warriors to win theWWE Women's Tag Team Championship for the first time together. After this, Ripley and Sky's team became a tag team dubbed "Rhiyo" (aportmanteau of their first names).[15] AtSaturday Night's Main Event XLIII, Ripley and Sky retained the titles againstThe Judgment Day (Liv Morgan andRoxanne Perez).
