Rhinoclemmys is agenus ofturtles in thefamilyGeoemydidae (formerly Bataguridae), the only genus in thesubfamily Rhinoclemmydinae. Memberspecies of the genus are commonly known as theNeotropical wood turtles and are the only geoemydids known from theAmericas. As such, they haveadapted to a wide range ofhabitats, which is reflected in the species' common names.
