InGreek mythology,Rhene (Ancient Greek: Ῥήνη) may refer to the following personages:

  • Rhene, anymph of MountCyllene.[1] She was the lover ofHermes and mother by him ofSaon (orSamon), the first king ofSamothrace.[2] Otherwise, the parentage of this eponymous ruler of the island was attributed toZeus and the nymphNymphe.[3]
  • Rhene, also a nymph who was a paramour ofOileus and mother of his sonMedon,[4] although some suggest that Oileus fathered Medon withAlcimache.[5] In one source, Rhene is given as the mother of Oileus' another son,Ajax the Lesser, as well,[6] though the latter is more commonly said to be the son of Oileus' legitimate wifeEriopis.[7]
