Resonite is an onlinevirtual world platform created by Tomáš “Frooxius” Mariančík, aCzech developer, and operated by Yellow Dog Man Studios.[1][2] The platform allows users to interact with others withuser-created3Davatars and worlds. Additionally, it allows users to build custom 3D content in-game. Resonite is designed primarily for use withvirtual reality headsets, being available forMicrosoft WindowsPCs. It also has a "desktop" mode designed formouse and keyboard.[1]
Resonite was first released as aSteamearly access game on October 6, 2023.[1]
Similar toVRChat,Resonite supports custom avatars, full body tracking, eye and face tracking, andhaptics. More featuresResonite has are customizableUI, the ability to be present in multiple worlds at the same time, andinstant messaging.[1]
Sharing media with users is a feature inResonite, where a user can drag and drop models, pictures, audio, music, or videos into any world for other users to experience. A user can also store 3D items in a world using the game’s inventory system.[3] Users can also change their avatar’s scale at any time, unless the host of thesession limits it. For discovering worlds,Resonite incorporates a world search and session discovery system, so that users can look for worlds or meet their friends.Resonite natively supportsstreaming through the use of in-game recording and streaming tools. Customlocomotion is also a feature ofResonite, enabling users to fly, noclip, switch tozero-gravity, or build their own customized system.[1]
InResonite, avatars and other 3D content can be built directly in the game without the need of external 3Dgame engines.[3][4] Because the content can be built in-game, real-time collaboration is also possible.[5][3][6] There are official tools provided by the team to help users build, ranging from brushes to scripting andmodeling tools. The tools can also be used to edit almost everything in a world the user is in. Other than tools,Resonite can import and export 3D models, and processtextures and audio.[1][7]A major feature thatResonite has is avisual programming language known asProtoflux. It lets users build things ranging from simple interactions to complex games and systems with real-time feedback and collaboration.[8][1] It supportswebsockets, which lets the code inResonite communicate with externalapplications, andasync flows, which lets users createcode that can yield or wait across different frames. Protoflux also has a storage system for storing computational data in an object in the world.[1]
Resonite supports variousVR headsets such as theOculus Rift,Oculus Quest,HTC Vive,Valve Index, andWindows Mixed Reality.
Before the release ofResonite, there is a game calledNeosVR. NeosVR is another game that was made by Frooxius and had the same premise asResonite.[9] However, there was a longstanding dispute between the then-NeosVR development team and Solirax's CEO, Karl Hulec, which led to the resignation of Frooxius on April 24, 2023. The remaining development team released a joint statement inDiscord on September 22, 2023, saying that they no longer see a path to successful reconciliation.[10][11][12]
On July 13, 2023, the development team started a newPatreon page titledResonite and stated that they are working on a new innovative project.[13] On September 22, 2023, the team made another post, including the first video about the game and a "thank you" message to their sponsors and Patreon supporters.[14] Then, they announced that the game will have an October launch.[10] They also announced that the Steam page, the official website, and the official Discord are officially live on September 23, 2023.[15] On October 7, 2023, the game went live on Steam. A launch live stream also happened onTwitch.[16]
Resonite, due to its nature of building content in the game, has community events based on creating. For instance, there is an event called Creator Jam, a collaborative VR building event. There's also an event calledMetaverse Maker Competition, a monthly team-oriented VR building event.[7] There are also non-English events like UniFesta, an item exhibition festival.[17]
