Rescue: HI-Surf action drama television series created by Matt Kester. In October 2020, it was announced thatHBO Max had two new drama series in development, including a junior lifeguard drama series fromJohn Wells , then titledKe Nui Road . It was to be produced fromJohn Wells Productions ,Warner Bros. Television , andAnimal Kingdom [ 22] [ 23] [ 24]
On April 28, 2023, it was announced thatFox had given a series order for the lifeguard drama, retitledRescue: HI Surf . Kester who serves as the showrunner is also expected to executive produce alongside Wells and Erin Jontow.[ 25] Fox Entertainment andWarner Bros. Television . Kester was to write the pilot episode, and Wells was set to direct the first two episodes.[ 26] 2023 Hollywood labor disputes .[ 27] [ 28]
On May 7, 2025, Fox canceled the series after one season.[ 1]
The original cast was announced on November 9, 2021 which included;Robbie Magasiva ,Tessa de Josselin , Andrew Creer, Ethan Rich, George Mason and Kekoa Scott Kekumano.[ 29] Arielle Kebbel ,Adam Demos , Alex Aiono, and Zoe Cipres were announced as the lead cast forRescue: HI Surf , with Magasiva and Kekumano still attached. In addition, Sea Shimooka was added to the recurring cast.[ 24] Shawn Hatosy andIan Anthony Dale were cast in recurring roles.[ 30]
Rescue: HI-Surf premiered on September 22, 2024, followingNFL coverage , before moving to its regular Monday-night time slot on September 23.[ 31]
Fox originally planned to air an episode ofRescue: HI-Surf following its coverage ofSuper Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025.[ 32] The Floor CTV , who televises bothRescue: HI-Surf and the NFL in Canada, still premiered the episode in the post-Super Bowl time slot).[ 33] [ 34]
