William Michael Gear, better known asW. Michael Gear, (born May 20, 1955) is an American writer and archaeologist.[1] He is the author ofNorth America's Forgotten Past series, co-written with his wifeKathleen O'Neal Gear. His novels have been published in 29 languages.[citation needed]

Gear was born inColorado Springs, Colorado. He received his B.A. (1976) and M.A. (1979) fromColorado State University. Upon completion of his Master's in physical anthropology he went to work forWestern Wyoming College inRock Springs, Wyoming as a fieldarchaeologist.

Gear currently resides inWyoming along with his wife and co-writer Kathleen.
